While staying in London for study, Lena could meet female artists from various countries. For this exhibition, she explained female modernists’ lives above to them and gathered their personal opinions about those artists.
The film work, STREET HAUNTING was inspired by Street Haunting written by Virginia Woolf. In a city where women were not allowed to walk down the street, the great writer wandered around as much as she could and left stunning articles about her trail. The video was taken in the same city, following the places which she mentioned in the book.
For this project, she has asked to recite artists’ books to female pedestrians in London, explaining the goal of this project and what they think about this theme. Lena recorded their voice, and put it onto the street scenes and the uncanny scenes with a dummy. The dummy symbolise the portraits of the first generation feminists.
